My mother contracted MRSA in a hospital in VA. She died from this. Is there any special fundrasing events around the United States that focus on finding a cure for MRSA?

MY whole family has MRSA and I can’t find any consistent info. If community MRSA is colonized in your nose but you don’t have any outbreaks, then are you contagious? Also, if you have an outbreak, but take anibiotics, are you still contagious? When is the nose contagious to others, only when having an outbreak, anytime it is colonized, or never contagious through the nose? Can you rid yourself of having MRSA or once you have it do you always have it? I am so confused. Are we lepers now that have to hide in our house, because we can’t guarentee that we won’t transmit it to others if heaven formit my 5 year old sneezes or wipes his nose and forgets to wash? Please help, anyone with any answers.

Well to answer some question , yes family can acquire MRSA from either hospital acquired MRSA and community acquired MRSA. The major prevention is hand washing, cleaning clothes and bed linen in hot water, covering all wounds to prevent contamination to other via surfaces. Most of the contamination is via open wounds. Sharing of sport equipment and coming in contact with someone skin with an open wound. Think wound, not nose.

MRSA resides in noses of almost everyone. The community acquired MRSA comes from being in close quarters with each other. The only way to prevent spread is hand washing.

My 7 yr old and 3 yr old daughters both have eczema. About 6 months ago, my 7 yr old daughter had a boil that we drained but then another came. We took her to the doctor and they did a culture…it was MRSA. She is now on her third round of antibiotics. My 3 yr old first got it about 5 months ago, and is on her 5th round of antibiotics. I have had it twice in the last two months. My version went to cellulitus and caused my leg to swell really bad and was not able to be drained. It did not respond to oral antibiotics and both times I had to go to the hospital to get IV antibiotics.
It’s getting really frustrating! We have been washing in hot water, bathing each night with antibacterial soap, swabbing our noses with the Muciprex (sp?) antibiotic, washing hand like crazy, and spraying everything with lysol.
I feel like we all wear the scarlet letter “M”. Amazingly, my husband has not had any infections!
I just put my 7yr old in bed. She was crying because she has about 7 boils that are painful so she can’t get comfortable in bed.
The only thing I’ve found helpful is tea tree oil. It is a natural antiseptic, antibiotic and we have used it on the boils. It has really helped them to heal quickly, plus it doesn’t sting!!! Big for the kids!
Any new info from anyone is appreciated!!!
Also, our really good friends just had a baby and we’ve been staying away for fear of spreading it to her….Any suggestions?

MRSA: Dallas County Jail Medical Requests Denied

    Sunday July, 15 2007
Deanna’s mother visited her. She witnessed Deanna’s skin infections on her cheeks, chin, left under corner of mouth, and on lip/chin. Deanna said they removed Ambien from her medications, because they only give it to her for 30 days.

    July 18 2007
Amy spoke with her public defender in District 363. She said she had not seen Deanna in a month. She put in a request “the following day” for health care. Deanna’s report was returned to the lawyer with a healthy approval. Atty is hoping for SAFP.org? or Cornell Dallas County Judicial Treatment for her addiction problems.

    July 18, 2007
Amy visited Deanna. Saw sores over neck chest, breast ears, chin mouth upper lip. Deanna said she hasn’t seen her attorney in almost 2months. The Inmate psychologist/ doctor recommends Nexus treatment for her addiction problems, which resulted in her incarceration. Doctor gave her bactrum, topical antibiotic.

    September 16, 2007
The life of this 20something year old mother of two over the last year is the grossest example an inmate, who was a drug addict. Without her shortcomings, the public would never be aware of the true horror of the disease spreading through not only Dallas County Jail, but also Texas State Prison, and Collin County systems while she awaited trial.
