I'd had this boil looking thing on the back of my thigh (hamstring) for a week and when it was obviously not getting better but getting worse, I decided to see the doctor. Up in these parts, when someone shows up with something that looks like what I had, they are apt to blame it on a spider bite. I had thought it was a boil and was going to give it the 1-2 weeks of epsom salt soaking and antibiotic topical cream, but when the week was up and it was red and swollen (the entire rear of my thigh) I figured yeah ..it's doctor time. He gave me a local, cut me up, squeezed and squeezed the gunk out, and packed some sterile stuff in there to keep the hole open for drainage. I've gone back now twice and the culture has come back positive for MRSA. After seeing the worried look on his face and hearing the sighs...I gotta tell you i'm scared. I've never been scared like this before and I gotta say that the initial shock was overwhelming. My mother is hellbent on homeopathic curing and care, but I 've always been more dependent on traditional medical care. The nurse who cared for me today gave me some info (where I found your information), and she was very knowledgeable due to the fact that she usually works in a jail (where she's seen plenty of this). My leg is presently still swollen, the redness has gone and I noticed some itching sensation there today. He cleaned it up some and removed the packing while placing fresh packing in there today. I'm due Friday for another visit where he'll remove the packing and see if it's drying up. My family and I are really startled at all of this because I'm the healthy guy. I usually never get sick. I exercise regularly and am usually in the gym every other day. I'm also the cleanest guy I know as I'm meticulous of even fingernail length.
All of this is just so insane to me. Please offer any advice you can. Should I see a specialist or what? The doctor hasn't referred me to one nor has he specified I should see one. He basically wants to see what the Cipro will do as he said the bacteria in the culture sample he took was very 'sensitive' to it.
If you have ANY info please don't hesitate to e-me at texasrho83@yahoo.com. Thank you.
