My story… I’m a 40 year old female, active, happy, married 23 yrs to the same wonderful man that I met while in High School, we have (2) teenagers who are simply awesome and we (HAD) a very full/active life until January of this year (05′). Over the last year I’ve had trouble with cellulitis, one on my face, two on my hip & one on my shoulder. All have been successfully treated with IV (Cephazolin) until the one on my leg that came about from a shaving nick on my ankle. I cared for this nick as I would any other, antibiotic ointment, covered and kept clean with a regular band aid. No signs of infection until my leg started to hurt, then it became 3 + times it’s normal size from swelling. I have a wonderful Doctor (Internal Medicine) who sees me at the drop of a hat due to previous cellulitis infections. I called him and was in the next day. This was January 12th. 2005.. He took one look at me and my leg/thigh/hip and said “Peg, I’m sure this is MRSA and I must put you in the hospital immediately.” That was the start of my MRSA horror story. I spent 4-days in the hospital (isolation) with Vancomycin running via I.V. One the second day they inserted a PIC-Line IV, thank goodness for that because it was killing my hand/vein. My husband and I begged the Doctor in the hospital to drain it, but he refused! I was pretty upset knowing it would heal much faster and get the bad stuff out in the process. He only said “we wont for cosmetic reasons!” HUH? Okkkkk, go figure! I spent the next 5 weeks on home infusion w/ Vancomycin. As with everyone who has experienced or had MRSA, I was SURE I would die, actually I was afraid that I wouldn’t die, yes that is how bad you feel and how sick you truly are with this stuff. Anyway, my Doctor gave me a referral to a Infectious Disease Doctor who has put me on lifelong oral antibiotics, I use Phisohex to cleanse my skin and am VERY cautious with bug bites, scratches, cuts and even being out in public. I’m a “waterless/antibacterial cleanser” junkie! ha ha. Since the infection I’ve been battling severe fatigue and on-going problems with my leg and hip. I’ve had 2 Ultrasounds done to rule out DVT, both clear, and several x-rays taken of my hip. As of this writing: Sept. 15th, 2005 I’m currently waiting for a MRI and vascular surgeon appt. because of the continued swelling and pain within my leg and hip. While the fatigue (apparently common after this type of infection) has eased a bit, I still struggle to do my daily routine. Our life has come to a complete stand-still because of this infection. I only get 4-5 hrs a day on my leg before it starts killing me, I have a constant limp, it swells and the pain in my hip & leg is unlike anything I’ve ever had. My husband is my rock, he’s very supportive, caring and attends every appt. I have with these Doctors, most of all, he’s sooo frustrated, along with me! I’ll keep you posted as the appt’s materialize. Thank you so much for giving us a “outlet” to vent! It helps tremendously!
Hugs to all

My son has a very bad group of infections on his legs. They have been treating them for about two months and just now diagnosed them as MERSA. He is in severe pain and his spirits as so low. He lives in another city and I can’t seem him very often. I have put him in the Lords hands. He has cancelled his I-net service or I would send him this sight. Thank you for telling your story. I will keep encouraging him all I can.

Dear Sandy,
Please dont allow your son to give in to this illness. HE CAN get better. I’ve been fighting it for almost 2-years and the Doctors I have are simply wonderful, your son can find the same if he has support and help.
He also needs to get on some sort of pain control regimen, his primary care physician can do this for him. Once he has the pain under control he’ll feel better about tackling the MRSA.
It’s hard, sooo very hard when it’s on a limb. I too have it on my leg and hip, it hurts no doubt. I’m on methadone, valium and norco just to keep my leg at some sort of comfort level so I can function abit. It’s not a “cure” by any means but at least it helps to focus on getting rid of the infection. I’ve had over 18 months of IV antibiotics here at home, it’s a long process.
MRSA is very hard to eradicate Sandy, it takes constant care and visits to the Doctor. It takes strength and determination.
If you must, get on the phone for him, start looking for Infectious Disease Doctors, MRSA is what they specialize in and they’re worth their weight in gold when you find one with a “go go go” attitude. If you need me to perk your son up at well, dont hesitate to email me. I can give him a buzz on the phone and we’ll muddle through it together. Support is priority #1 when you feel awful from this illness.
I hope this helps…. Hang in there Sandy.

Dear Peg:
It’s been a long time since anyone has posted here but I wanted to comment. As an herbalist for 14 yrs + I have seen just about everything named and unnamed. I have worked with the strangest of parasites, viruses, bugs, as well as the simplest of symptoms, and many types of cancer. And I am happy to say almost all have had great successes.
While researching for mycoplasms, I myself ended up with a pneumonia mycoplasm and epstein barr which knocked me out gradually. At first I didn’t even know I had it because I was treating myself with herbs …and what had me curious is that the symptoms kept changing, while some remainded the same. In other words, I was calling for different herbs pointing to virus one week and bacteria another as they ran their cycles through my systems.
I went to a doctor and he said, I was too young and healthy to have any of that. And I made him test my blood, I did have that. Both of them. At that point my immunity was low and about to go much lower.
So I continued my search for a cure…or to at least find the one thing, naturally that could undermine it if I could fully understand the nature of it. I researched and found that colloidal silver was now being administered via IV and I found a clinic in my area.
Colloidal Silver has been known to create an unfriendly environment in which bacteria and yeast can grow. What I found was that the nature of the bacteria and virus was such that it not only ran cycles, but it would pop up again with varying intensity. Therefore, it was very important to find something that hit it at it’s core. The IV initially did just that. I had walked in with something similiar to what you describe here, but on my leg bone. (It’s still there, a little.) Within one half an hour of the colloidal silver particulate iv, it was fading and my infected lungs were burning. Everywhere I had it working on my system, was burning yet I knew it was a good burning…it felt good, if that makes sense!?
I had also been put on a series of both anti-viral drugs and cipro along with this IV every few weeks. ANd I got better.
It still surfaced in waves with the typical lymph rash etc… but I began to understand the how and the why of this.
Long story short, I am much better today, but it took a lot of research, a host of drugs initially, then a lot of varied immune herbs, special soaks that pulled things OUT of my body, and finally some hard-core natural remedies that pushed it out of my system. What surprised me the most is its mutating quality, and it’s depth within my system.
I also had many energetic treatments and employed some other resources that I still do in order to boost my immune, slough off the old emotional baggage that contribute to the immune decrease, and keep rotating the immune herbs. The rotation of things is what I’ve found to be most helpful both in me and all of my clients that have had it too.
I do think that what you have might have a shot at being mitigated given what I just found out, lived through, and have helped others with. If I can help, please contact me.
I understand that it can feel pretty frustrating and dim, and yet there is quite a bit that one can do to get the body back…and the spirit!
In light,
The herbalist

Peg I had 4 boils over a 18 month time span. The first one I thought was a spider bite and it got real bad before I went to the doctor and he prescribed very strong antibiotic and it took a little over 2 month to heal and left a nasty scar. The next to I cot early and only took about a month for each to heal. The fourth one started as a very sore bump in the middle of my back. But when it broke the skin it was very painful and turn a deep dark red and was draining pus this happen on a Sunday. So I was going to weight to go to the doctor on Monday morning. So I went online just to check if there were any herbal cure for boils and I found a web site called earthclinic.com and on this site I punched in boil cure and it went to a web page and read it. And it said to use Turmeric a common spice. So went to the store and got some and tried it. I took the first dose that night and by the next morning the pain was gone and it wasn’t draining any pus either. So I took another dose and went to work and when I got home that night about 12 hour later the deep dark red circle was gone and it was light pink and healing.and by the end of the 5th day it was completely healed. I haven’t had a boil in over a year now. But I do get heat bump sometime I just take a dose of Turmeric and they go away. You can get it in a pill form but it doesn’t as good as the powder does. And if you have an Indian food store in your area. You can get a prier ground powder there and can buy it by the pound for about the same price you will be paying for a small bottle at the grocery store. Please Peg check it out. It mite help you like it help me. It can’t hart to just try. Take care Peg and God Bless

I read the story about Peg this morning on the net. I’d like to keyboard this story about MRSA I clipped from the Panhandle Senio Times.
“MRSA faces defeat from wild flower” by Ailin Quinlan -Nov. 16, England- A wildflower growing in West Cork could hold the key to wiping out the deadly superbug MRSA, it has emerged. Researchers at Cork Institure of Technology(CIT)have revealed the bright yellow flower known as inula helenium kill the lethal bug, which is resistant to some of the strongest antibiotics on the market. Inula helenium is a tall plant which grows wild in west Cork and blossoms in late summer. It’s one of two herbs involved in a e35,ooo research project carried out at CIT. The, pulsatilla vulgaris, also proved highly effective against the potentiall fatal MRSA bug. Extracts from both plants were tested against a group of 300 staphylococci including MRSA and inula helenium proved 100% effective against the superbug. The trials were carried out by postgraduate student SusanO’Shea of CIT’s bilogical sciences department as part of a two-year research porject, under the supervision of Dr. Brigid Lucey,a senior medical scientist with the microbiology department of Cork University Hospital and Dr. Lesley Cotter, a lecturer in biomedical sciences at CIT.”– IF you open wounds please put some Cayenne powder directly on the sore. It might sting a little but you’ll be surprise at how fast your sore can heal. Cayenne is a mircale not only internally but also for any external wound. I take it everyday in a gel cap and haven’t had a cold or flu for over ten years. Most of your emune system is in your stomach. The cayenne will get your lower tract back up to ramming speed and keep it that way as long as you continue to take it. I know this for a fact. John Rosenberry

I am 25 and work in advertising in Manhattan. I have been reading all these posts and thank you all because they are very helpful.
I have had what i thought was folliculitis on my armpits and then face and it just looked like lots of little bumps, some puss filled. It was very sever under my armpits but my face it definitely wasnt as bad. Since i have always had great skin i got nervouse especially when it spread to my face. I do shave my entire body though as i use to be a competitve bodybuilder. This I feel like, puts me at high risk because i spend lots of time in the Gym , though i am meticulous in how i wash my hands and constantly use antibacterial lotion and sprays. I also had to have back surgery in June becuase i ruptured two disks. So again that puts me at risk.
When i first went to the doc 4 months ago he gave me antibiotics, i came back the next month and got stronger ones becuase the first course didnt work. Obviously the second didnt either but i kind of just dropped it becuase i am so busy working almost 19 hours a day. I finally saw a Dermatologist last Monday and got my test results back yesterday and I have MRSA. I am very worried for two reasons. I dont want to spread it to my girlfriend who i live with, i also dont want it to slow me down. Until today i haven’t really noticed any side effects but there have been a few. Sever muscle cramps on days when i did not go to the gym, or the previous day. I also have not felt quite like myself - Is depression a side?
The doc prescribed the drug Cephazolin which it looks like is one of the milder ones. I guess she is trying to see if that works first as i have not had any major sides yet like some of you with those huge boils.
What are some steps i can take on my own to help fight it? I have a terrible sore throat today and i usually never get sick. Is this from MRSA? Should i take this Colloidal Silver? Should i sleep in a different room from my Girlfriend? She has 4 dogs - can i spread it to them? Should i stop shaving altogether becuase thats what spreading it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Thanks Again
JC from NYC

The drug i was prescribed was actually sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim not cephazolin, i was mistaken. I was also told to put mupirocin in my nose twice a day. Some cream on face and bath with a cleanser Miboxidin - i am really not sure of the names of thos though.
